EPH 100 by Hard Rock is a powerful fat burner containing a blend of active ingredients that allow effective weight reduction while maintaining wellbeing, such as anhydrous caffeine, Ephedra viridis extract, Yohimbine, phenylethylamine, glucuronolactone, nettle root extract, L-phenylalanine and theophylline.
Caffeine – a compound of the methylxanthine group, one of the most popular stimulants. It acts antagonistically on adenosine receptors, thereby reducing fatigue, which in effect allows longer and more effective performance of intellectual and physical activities. Centrally, it probably contributes to increased serotonin secretion and may also improve cholinergic and dopaminergic transmission. It has been found that it can also support lipolysis in fat tissue cells by increasing the amount of intracellular cAMP (by blocking the activity of the phosphodiesterase that breaks it down) and by indirectly activating the “enzymatic lipolysis apparatus”.
Ephedra viridis extract – contains substances that influence the sympathetic component of the autonomic system. This translates into greater production of thermal energy in muscle tissue, as well as the use of energy substrates (glucose and fatty acids) supplied by food or by adipocytes. A further effect of reducing glucose transport to fat tissue prevents reserve substances being stored there.
Yohimbine – its main action is to stimulate the secretion of noradrenaline, a hormone responsible for increasing the release of fatty acids from fat tissue. Thanks to its interaction with alpha-adrenergic receptors, it also helps burn fat from troublesome places (abdomen, chest, thighs, glutes). Yohimbine works by blocking α2-type receptors, which clearly makes losing weight easier and is useful for sculpting parts of the body that resist fat loss. It is worth remembering that Yohimbine is effectively cancelled out by insulin, so taking this compound around carbohydrate meals is pointless. Yohimbine is particularly effective when used on an empty stomach, before physical effort.
Phenylethylamine – acts centrally (within the CNS), binding to TAAR1 receptors and thereby inhibiting the uptake of dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline. The first of these are substances responsible for our positive mood and for pleasure. Noradrenaline belongs to the catecholamines, hormones that help release energy substances from fat tissue by means of a molecular mechanism, and also by interacting with methylxanthines.
Glucuronolactone – a glucose metabolite formed in the liver. It can be converted into xylitol, glucaric acid and L-xylulose. As a derivative of glucuronic acid, a detoxifying effect is hypothesised: it binds to toxins, increases their solubility in water and allows excretion through the kidneys.
Nettle root extract – rich in many chemical compounds with a broad spectrum of effects. Nettle is a source of organic acids, flavonoids, tannins and many other substances; however, the sterols — beta-sitosterol — deserve special mention. The main actions postulated are that the active ingredients may contribute to an increase in the concentration of free testosterone in the blood (through the inhibition of alpha-5-reductase and aromatase, as well as reducing the production of the SHBG that transports testosterone). They may also inhibit the development of prostate cancer and also have anti-inflammatory effects.
L-Phenylalanine is a compound belonging to the group of exogenous amino acids, involved in many important bodily processes. It is the starting substrate in the reactions that form catecholamines and phenylethylamine, a compound already contained in this supplement, thereby increasing its effect.
Theophylline – another methylxanthine with an effect similar to caffeine that is compatible with the catecholamines. In addition, however, it can raise blood pressure, improving blood flow through the kidneys, and also eases breathing by relaxing the smooth muscle of the bronchi. During physical exercise, adequate ventilation is important to avoid oxygen debt, and the kidneys receive a reduced amount of blood: here theophylline can be extremely useful.
